Frequently Asked Questions

Answers You Can Trust from Advisors Who Care

What makes Moffat Advisory Group different?

We believe retirement planning should begin with understanding your goals—not selling products. Our recommendations are grounded in evidence-based retirement research, decades of real-world experience, and a commitment to helping you make informed decisions with confidence. Every family is different, which is why every plan should be, too.

Why should I choose an independent advisory firm?

Independence allows us to recommend strategies based solely on what’s in your best interest. We are not limited to proprietary products or a single company’s solutions. Instead, we remain free to evaluate a wide range of planning options and collaborate with nationally respected specialists when additional expertise is needed.

What does it mean that you’re an independent firm?

It means our advice isn’t confined to one company’s products or services. We believe clients deserve access to the right expertise—not simply the expertise that happens to exist under one roof. That’s why we regularly coordinate with estate planning attorneys, CPAs, Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisors (CTFAs), and other professionals to help create well-rounded strategies.

Do you work with clients throughout the United States?

Yes. While our office is located in Florida, we work with clients across the country through secure virtual meetings, phone consultations, webinars, and in-person appointments when appropriate.

Can we work together if I don’t live in Florida?

Absolutely. Many of our clients live outside Florida. We have developed systems that allow us to provide the same level of communication, planning, and service regardless of location.

Do you work with my CPA or attorney?

Absolutely. We believe the best outcomes come from collaboration. We regularly coordinate with our clients’ trusted professionals to help ensure every aspect of their financial, tax, legal, and estate plans works together.

Our Process

What happens during the first meeting?

Our first meeting is focused on understanding you. We’ll discuss your goals, concerns, current financial picture, retirement income sources, and what you want your retirement to look like. It’s an opportunity for both of us to determine whether we’re a good fit.

Is there a cost for the first consultation?

No. Your initial consultation is complimentary and designed to help you better understand your options before making any decisions.

Do I have to move my money to work with you?

No. Many people come to us simply for a second opinion or to review their current retirement strategy. If changes make sense, we’ll explain why and allow you to decide how you’d like to proceed.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring any financial statements, retirement account information, pension details, Social Security estimates, insurance policies, estate planning documents, and a list of questions or concerns. The more complete the picture, the more valuable our discussion will be.

Retirement Planning

How do I know if I have enough to retire?

That depends on much more than your account balance. We evaluate your income sources, spending needs, taxes, healthcare costs, inflation, longevity, and legacy goals to determine whether your retirement plan is sustainable.

How do you help create dependable retirement income?

We develop personalized income strategies designed to provide confidence throughout retirement by coordinating Social Security, pensions, retirement accounts, guaranteed income sources, and investment assets in a tax-efficient manner.

What happens if the market declines after I retire?

Market declines can have a much greater impact during retirement than during your working years. We help clients reduce unnecessary risk by creating strategies that provide income while helping protect long-term assets from sequence-of-returns risk.

Can you help reduce taxes in retirement?

Yes. Tax planning is an important part of retirement planning. We help clients evaluate strategies such as Roth conversions, tax-efficient withdrawals, charitable giving, and Required Minimum Distribution planning, while coordinating with their tax professionals.

Medicare & Long-Term Care

Do you help with Medicare?

Yes. Medicare planning is one of our specialties. We help clients understand Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage plans, prescription drug coverage, enrollment timelines, and other important decisions.

Can you help prepare for long-term care expenses?

Yes. We help clients evaluate multiple strategies for managing long-term care risk, including insurance solutions, asset protection strategies, and income planning designed to preserve financial independence.

High-Net-Worth Planning

Do you work with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families?

Yes. We regularly work with families whose planning needs extend beyond traditional retirement planning. Our role is to coordinate sophisticated strategies involving wealth preservation, tax efficiency, estate planning, charitable giving, trust planning, and multigenerational legacy planning.

How do you coordinate with estate planning attorneys and CPAs?

We believe complex planning requires collaboration. We work alongside experienced attorneys, accountants, trust specialists, and other professionals to help ensure every aspect of your plan is aligned with your long-term goals.

Educational Dinner Events

What can I expect at one of your educational dinner events?

Our educational dinner events are designed to provide practical retirement education in a relaxed, comfortable setting. You’ll enjoy a complimentary meal while learning about topics such as retirement income planning, taxes, Medicare, market risk, and legacy planning.

Is the event a sales presentation?

No. Our goal is to educate first. We believe informed people make better financial decisions. If you’d like to continue the conversation afterward, we’re happy to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Is there any obligation to become a client?

None whatsoever. We encourage attendees to ask questions, learn something valuable, and decide for themselves whether they’d like to explore working together.

Can I bring my spouse or a guest?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage couples to attend together whenever possible so everyone hears the same information and can make informed decisions as a team.
